What Is The Best Brand Of Violins For A Beginner?

There is no specific brand of beginner violins that is considered 100% better than the rest – it all depends on how each individual instrument is made. Since you are a beginner, it would be best to go to a music store or to a string specialist who sells violins. Bring a string teacher or a friend who has a decent amount of experience playing the violin. Search for instruments in your price range, and have your friend play each instrument for you.
You should do a blind test first – turn your back and have your friend play each instrument without telling you which one it is (so you aren’t influenced by looks or price!) and pick the instrument that sounds best. You should then ask for your friends opinion as to which instrument is easiest to play and sounds the best.
Some qualities to look for in a violin – rich tones, bright tones not scratchy or tinny sounding, violin should be well made with all seams tightly closed and no surface cracks, and if it is an older instrument make sure it has been well maintained.
Ultimately the deciding factor for picking a violin is what compliments YOU best, with a tone quality and playability that YOU like!
Don’t worry if you don’t find something right away – a violin is a big investment and buying one should not be a hasty decision. Hope this helps!
